A Story for Halloween

Just a little story I wrote at work the other day...

One dark and spooky Halloween, I went out for Trick-or-treat. I was dressed in my prettiest princess gown with a sparkly tiara on my chestnut curls. I was looking FINE, if I do say so myself!

As I strolled down an isolated alley, I approached the Old Wickersham House. Rumors said that it was haunted, but I had common sense on my side. I didn't believe in ghosts.

I ambled past a gigantic bush that was overgrown. All of a sudden, the monstrous plant began to quiver and shake! A spooky apparition appeared and the air cooled and chilled me to the bone.

"Ooooo! Boooo!" cried the ghost in it's shrillest squeal.

I took one look at the sickly white spirit with flowing robes and ran as fast as I could towards the safety of the street. "Help me!" I yelled in a desperate plea.

The ghost continued in it's relentless pursuit. I was racing so fast that I tripped over my shiny silver slippers. As I fell to the ground, I could hear uproarious laughter coming from the ghost that towered over me.

Imagine my surprise when the ghost removed it's white sheet and I looked into the eyes of my best friend! What a mean trick to play on Halloween!

Book Meme

Here are the rules: Grab the nearest book.

Find the closest book...Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one. Pick the CLOSEST.

Open the book to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the next two to five sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

My book is: Twice Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris

"Even worse than when I got shot with that poisoned arrow on my wedding day. Maybe that was an omen. Wedded bliss--Ha! Marriage has a lot in common with having a poisoned arrow in your guts."

A Close Call

Today was a Professional Study Day at work and since there wasn't much for me to do, I took the day off. I decided to get ready for a yard sale (in Eileen's neighborhood) which is tomorrow.

I was working in the guest room when I looked at the top of my wooden bookcases and thought about selling some of the stuffed animals I have up there. I have 2 bookcases that my late Granddaddy built for me when I was little. They are solid wood and about 6 feet tall. I am 5'4". As I tried to reach the top of the bookcase, I lost my balance. I stupidly reached out to grab the first thing I could to stop myself from guessed it! I grabbed the bookcase! As I fell on my rear, the bookcase started leaning forward and everything that was on the shelves fell on me. Luckily, I was able to push the case back upright before it squished me!

What a day!

While at Publix....

After work, I stopped by Publix for a few items. On my way in, a man on a bike stopped in front of me and asked for money. Here is our conversation:

Man on Bike: Can you give me some money?

Me: I am sorry, but I don't have any money with me.

If you could spare a few dollars, I will pray for you and you family. Jesus will protect you if I pray.

Me: I'm sorry, I have no cash.

Manager walks outside.

MoB: Please, if you have just a penny, I will pray for you. Jesus loves all people. Please can you give me a penny?

Me: Again,I'm sorry, I have no money today.

MoB starts to ride off, turns around to look at me and says:
Whatever, @**hole!

Manager looks at me and I say: Well that wasn't very Christian now, was it?

Manager laughs.
